Easy envelope pillow cover tutorial

New Year! New Simple Project!
15 minutes + 1 piece of fabric + 4 stitches = easy pillow cover
Today I’m going to share a tutorial which will show you how to make a basic pillow cover from one piece of fabric (without any zipper or buttons). It’s a good project for beginners and a great idea for the last minute gift.

STEP 1. MEASURE THE SIZE OF THE PILLOW AND CUT THE FABRIC
How to measure fabric for an envelope pillow cover?
1. Measure your pillow (width and height)
2. Cut out 1 piece of fabric (rectangle) with the following dimensions:
– width – multiply the width x 2 and then add 8 inches (20 cm)
– height – add 1 inch (2 cm) to the height
All measurements are given in inches and in centimeters.
For example – If your pillow is 16 x 16 inches (40 x 40 cm) you will need to cut out 1 piece of fabric 40 x 17 inches (100 x 42 cm).
STEP 2. HEM THE BOTH SHORT SIDES
Lay the fabric wrong side up. Hem both short sides of the fabric. To create a hem, fold over the edge 1/2 inch (1 cm) and iron it. Fold over the same edge 1/2 inch (1 cm) a second time (to hide the raw edge), iron and stitch it. Repeat these steps for the both sides.
STEP 3. FOLD THE BOTH SHORT SIDES
Now turn the fabric right side up and fold the both short sides to the center (so they overlap) to create the shape of your pillow (as shown in the picture below). Now check the width – it should be the width of your pillow – in my case 16 inches (40 cm).
STEP 4. FINISH YOUR PILLOW COVER
Pin the unfinished edges in place and then stitch – look at the picture below. Seam allowance 1/2 inch (1 cm). If your fabric frays – finish the stitched edges with a zig-zag stitch.
Turn the pillow cover right side out and push out the corners (you can use a chopstick). Insert your pillow inside.
