No-sew fleece scrunchies DIY – easy craft for kids

I have already sewed few types of scrunchies: the casual scrunchies, the pom pom scrunchies, the patchwork scrunchies and the ruffle ones. Today, I’ve made one more type, that is… no-sew scrunchie. When I saw this flower scrunchie tutorial, I wanted to make something similar, and I decided that I’ll use circles instead of squares – they seem to be perfect for this project.
It’s a fantastic craft for children – their cutting circles practice might help them in their scissors skills development. It’s also a great fun for girls – they can create their own handmade hair accessories.
For one no-sew scrunchie you will need:
- 18 circle pieces of fleece about 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter
- an elastic – 20 cm (8 inches) length
- scissors
- 1 small safety pin and 1 scrap of fabric
STEP 1
Cut out 18 circle pieces of fleece about 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter. You can draw the circle using a glass, small bottle etc.
STEP 2
Fold each circle in half and make 2 small kerfs as shown in the picture below.
Then you have two holes in one circle.
STEP 3
Tie one end of the elastic to the scrap of fabric. Don’t tie too strong, it’s only for a while, to protect the circles from sliding the elastic out. Place the safety pin on the second end of the elastic. Use the small safety pin.
STEP 4
Place the circle right side up. Now tread the elastic through the holes as shown in the picture below.
Tread the elastic through the all circles one by one.
STEP 5
When you finish treading all the circles – remove the safety pin and untie the scrap.
Tie the two ends of elastic up together with a double knot.
Now distribute the circles around your elastic. That’s it.
